about the PhD program.

In some cases,
these required research methods courses may be delayed a
semester or two as students take one or two of the 500 level
classes of the elective requirements in section III below.
In all cases, the timing and composition of electives will
be chosen with the approval of the student’s advisor so that
these courses integrate and support the agreed upon research
thrust of the doctoral candidate.
Normally, the four
research methods courses listed above are required of all
students. On an exceptional basis, at most two classes can be
replaced by prior coursework or other related classes after
recommendation by a student’s advisor and approval by the
program director.
III. Elective
Requirements
In addition,
students must select 16 semester credit hours from existing
classes that are offered by various departments at UMKC. In
some cases, these electives will be taken before the
required research methods courses of section II above and in
other cases, students will take 500-level classes that will
integrate and support their chosen research presentation or
publication.
The following represents a
sampling of courses available from other potential
co-disciplines; it is not meant to exclude other disciplines
